Columbia Heights Renovation

This project is a 3-story Townhome in Columbia Heights, Washington D.C. As pressure from increasing gentrification and rising real estate prices grows greater, many homeowners are choosing to convert their existing home into a 2-Unit apartment to be able to rent out the underground space, especially in existing dense neighborhoods. This project proposes a renovation of a Columbia Heights basement unit to be a 1 Bedroom 1 Bath apartment.

The project is currently in the Schematic Design phase, and the owner hopes to expand their own Kitchen in the existing unit above. The schemes above represent my thought process through designing and reorganizing an apartment-unit program, while considering the unique dimensional constraints of the existing property.
